Handmade with layers of corrugated cardboard, Graypants Pebbles Alki takes recycling to new design heights, transforming the material with warm, ambient light. The design's intricate layers create a relaxed mood that manages to be both modern and rustic at the same time. Graypants maintains high standards of sustainable production, using only FSC-certified paper and environmentally-friendly treatments for their cardboard. Tough and elegant, each shade is precision cut with a laser and assembled by hand using a nontoxic adhesive. Just as Graypants’ designs have always been inspired by the natural environment, the Alki pulls its distinct forms from pebbles gathered at three beaches near the cold and weathered home of the company’s design studio outside Seattle. Each pebble shade is inscribed with the beach name and coordinates with the original stone that inspired it.

Architects Seth Grizzle and Jonathan Junker introduced their flagship line of pendant lights made entirely of repurposed corrugated cardboard in 2007. Their Scraplights quickly became a prime example of the principles that Graypants embodies to this day – responsible design, responsible materials, and responsible production. In 2012, their Amsterdam studio was founded to become a hub for local European production and distribution to over forty countries and has partnered with social works programs to provide craft-based work where needed the most. Today, Graypants continues to expand its custom portfolio, from architectural installations to public artworks, and has numerous product lines sold throughout the world.
